Apium Graveolens Dulce
There is nothing like getting fresh celery from your garden. It is so much crispier and tastier than the regular store bought celery. Utah 52-70 is an improved celery variety that grows much taller than the original Utah Celery. This varieties strong growth habit produces much longer ribs, deeper green color and is much sweeter than the original Utah celery. This great celery is one of the most highly recommended varieties to grow in a cool climate. It is a hearty disease resistant variety.
Celery requires about 2 weeks at a temperature of 65 degrees to germinate. Seed should be covered and kept moist. If soil dries out it could delay germination. Keep celery well watered while growing (Celery is a heavy drinker) Start seed indoors or in a greenhouse in spring. They can also be sown directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Cover seed with 1/8 inch fine soil. Plant seeds 12 inches apart in rows about 24 inches apart after all danger of frost has passed.
