Lobelia erinus

The early-flowering Riviera series produce beautiful, compact, ball-shaped plants that are ideal for garden and landscape beds and pots. It is the earliest flowering compact lobelia now on the market. And its vigor in your garden will be sure to please you. Lobelia is a plant that looks good whether it's grown by itself or planted in combination with other annuals. We offer the compact Riviera and the trailing Regatta series. Annual Lobelia Riviera White seeds will usually germinate in 15-20 days in full sun. Needs light to germinate so do not cover seeds. Native americans have used Lobelia to treat respiratory and muscle disorders, and as a purgative. Today it is used to treat asthma and food poisoning, and is often used as part of smoking cessation programs.

Growing Instructions: Sow February-March at 18-24C (65-75F) in a good soil. Keep soil damp and do not exclude light, sealing in a plastic bag after sowing is helpful. Germination takes 14-21 days. Transplant in bunches of 3 or 4 and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 10cm (4in) apart in a sunny spot in light, moist soil. For pots, containers etc. Leave in a sheltered spot for a few days to make sure that they are well established before standing outside. Hardy in zones 7-9.
