This unique pre-1700s heirloom goes by common names such as love-lies-bleeding, love-lies-a'bleeding, pendant amaranth, tassel flower, velvet flower, foxtail amaranth, Inca Wheat, and quilete, to name a few! Love Lies Bleeding is a unique flower variety that is extremely hardy and super easy to grow. They can easily grow just about anywhere from seed. This Amaranth has beautiful elongated ropes of deep red flower blooms that hang all the way to the ground from the tops of sturdy, 3-5 ft. plants. Its unique mahogany red blooms last all summer long! Each single Amaranthus plant can produce tens of thousands of edible flower seeds, and it will self-seed very easily. Many parts of the plants, including the leaves and seeds, are edible and are frequently used as a source of food. The greens of Amaranthus caudatus can be boiled or cooked in soups, and the seeds can be popped (like popcorn) or ground into flour.
All amaranth varieties are super easy to grow. To grow Love Lies Bleeding Amaranthus seeds, simply sow flower seed directly outside after all danger of frost has passed, or to get a head start, you can start your seed indoors up to six weeks before transplanting outdoors. Ht. 36-60".
